About CyTunes
CyTunes is a download site that features exclusive music from artists who have
contributed tracks (both live and in-studio) to help raise money in memory of
Cy Rawls. All proceeds from CyTunes will be donated to the
Tisch Brain Tumor Center,
where Cy was treated.
CyTunes was conceived by Chris Rossi of
Archimedean Company and
Spacelab Recording Studio,
in hopes of helping Cy Rawls.
Cy had recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor and -- since he
didn't have insurance -- was facing a mountain of financial worries in
addition to an uncertain prognosis. Since Cy's life revolved around the local
music scene (he often attended several live shows per night), Chris thought
that many musicians would be willing to contribute music to help their biggest
fan. Chris enlisted the help of a few others in the community with other skill sets (law, graphic design,
PR, copy writing, etc.) and set to work building the Web site.
Meanwhile, many others stepped up to help in every way possible. Multiple benefits were organized,
musical and otherwise (one benefit even featured a steak dinner!), and
countless donations were made. Everyone hoped and prayed for Cy's
recovery.
Sadly, Cy's valiant battle against cancer ended on Friday, October 3, 2008.
He was 33 years old. Cy was always a tireless and enthusiastic supporter and
booster of the North Carolina music community and of music in general. His
friendship and support touched more people than he could have ever imagined.
Regrettably, CyTunes was not finished in time for Cy to have seen it, but it
is presented now as a memorial to someone who was friend to so many.
What better way for people to celebrate Cy than through the music that he loved?
We hope you will take this opportunity to check out some of the amazing music
donated by the artists herein. Purchase a high-quality .mp3, or download an
entire album, live show, etc. You get to listen to some great music while
contributing to a worthy cause. All music on CyTunes is exclusive -- you
won't find it anywhere else. There are some songs that were previously
released but are out of print. Others are new, original recordings. Others are
live recordings of those benefit shows for Cy, including performances by
Polvo, Superchunk, The Rosebuds and others. All proceeds (less only the Google
transaction fee) go to the
Preston Robert Tisch Brain Cancer
Center to assist them in their research and treatment efforts.
